3D Model by The Vishap (Arm. վիշապներ, Veshap, Azhdahak) - archaic mythological figures, were in ancient times represented in the form of large stone statues- menhirs. The Vishap were common in the mythology of the Middle East countries. Originally they were deities or spirits of water and probably were related to the culture of Kur - Arax. In the second millennium BC or earlier, the inhabitants of the plateau of Armenia sculpted stone images of vishap and installed them close to the underground sources of water. With the time the traditional image of vishap changed, and the mythology of different peoples became synonymous to evil spirits, dragons, etc., often maintaining its original connection with water. Vishap statues were up to five meters high, and usually had the form of a fish, and more rarely were in the form of a bull's skin stretched over poles. The word "vishap" is of Iranian origin.
